More good news for San Marcos as Flippin’ Pizza opens a new location here this week. I went over to check it out this weekend and found it to be quite a nice little place. It’s located right across from CSUSM in the Ralphs shopping center near Mr. Taco. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the bar off in the corner (hey, pizza and beer go together). It’s rather cozy but packs a big punch. Besides a few beers on tap, I counted around 41 different bottled beers (not counting the NA beer, which no one does). So if you’re looking to find something to help wash down the pizza, you’ll have no trouble here.
Flippin’ Pizza makes New York hand tossed pies. And toss them they do. My daughter and I had a great time watching them toss and spin the dough in the open kitchen. The boss-man even showed off a bit with some fancy pizza handling – the ol’ around the back and toss into the air trick. Nice. A free show for the kiddos, guaranteed to entertain. You can get pizza by the slice here as well, but I didn’t see them making any of the dough for that. I wonder how they toss and spin those little triangles?
One issue that is big on my list when it comes to recommending a restaurant is freshness. These guys are making their dough fresh daily and believe me you can taste it. We ordered the Bronx (Pepperoni, sausage, onions, black olives, green peppers, mushrooms and fresh garlic) and even after I had made my way down past the delicious toppings I was still enjoying the crust made from (did I mention?) fresh dough.
Friends, fresh ingredients are key. It shows they care. Show them you care too and get over there and get yourself a mighty fine pie.

I headed on over to Flippin’ Pizza for lunch today for the first time and got two slices and a drink for $6 even. That’s a great deal folks, and yes I could still taste the fresh dough. After the pizza I just couldn’t walk out without stopping to talk to the bartender and sampling one of the many bottle beers they carry. Turns out they now have over 50 beers to choose from! And the San Marcos location is the only one that offers anywhere close to that kind of selection. Nice!
One thing I really want to remark on was just how friendly everyone was in there today. I’m not talking about your standard “how can I help you” and “Thanks, come again” niceties. I’m talking about the full-on taking care of business – making sure everything’s going your way – we’re serious about you enjoying your time here kind of friendly. Thanks for a great lunch guys, I did have a nice time!
